“I have received a lot of requests to typeset and modify tattoos using other scripts I’ve designed like Burgues Script or Adios,” says Paul. “At first the whole idea was amusing to me. I had worked in corporate branding for a few years before becoming a type designer, and suddenly, I was being asked to get involved in personal branding, as literally ‘personal’ and ‘branding’ as the expression can get.”

“In a way, Piel Script is a removed cousin of Burgues Script,” Paul continues. “Although the initial sketches were infused with some 1930s showcard lettering ideas (particularly those of B. Boley, whose amazing work was shown in Sign of the Times magazine), most of the important decisions about letter shapes and connectivity were reached by observing whatever strengths and weaknesses can be seen in tattoos using Burgues. Tattoos using Adios also provided some minor input. In retrospect, I suppose Affair exercised some influence as well, albeit in a minor way. I guess what I’m trying to say is there is as much of me in Piel Script as there is in any of the other major scripts I designed, even though the driving vision for it is entirely different from anything else I have ever done.”

UsMagazine.com reports that Alanis Morisette has tweeted a picture of herself covered in henna tattoos – pregnant belly and all.

In the Arabic culture, the temporary tattoos are usually applied during the seventh month of a woman’s pregnancy.

The 36-year old, who announced she was expecting a baby with husband, MC Souleye, confirmed on Wednesday that the couple are officially expecting a baby boy.

“Some rituals surprise in the heart-warming department,” Morisette tweeted in conjunction with the picture.

In the picture, several friends surround the singer, who are also covered in henna tattoo designs.

The “Hands Clean” singer and Souleye’s bundle of baby joy is expected to arrive early next year.

Niels Arden Oplev’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Män Som Hatar Kvinnor) picked up best feature and best actress prizes at Sweden’s Guldbagge Awards last night (January 25).

Noomi Rapace scooped the best actress award for her role in the Scandanvian hit; which also also picked up the Audience Award. A US remake of the is already planned.

Yellow Bird’s Søren Stærmose, the film’s Danish producer, said: “It’s good for the soul to watch movies. What’s not good for the soul is men who hate women.”

Lisa Siwe scooped the best director award for Glowing Stars (I Taket Lyser Stjärnorna), while Fredrick Elfeldt’s The Girl (Flickan) too the prize for best cinematopgraphy.

Austrian director Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon (Das Weiße Band) was named best foreign feature and veteran producer Waldemar Bergendahl was honoured with a Life Achievement Award.

A man gets a tattoo on his neck during the final day of the Bangkok International Tattoo convention in Bangkok on Jan. 17, 2010. Tattoo artists and enthusiasts from all around the world gathered in Bangkok for a three-day convention to showcase their work and compete for the best tattoo created.

Judi James, in her new book The You Code, said different designs can offer a deep insight into what the person is really like.

“A tattoo is a way of turning your body into an advertising placard with the underlying desire of getting people to believe what they read there – but they actually uncover their inner personality. So you can even use tattoos to weigh up a potential date or your other half,” the Daily Star quoted Judi as saying.

Judi explained how men and women could display their true colours in their body art.

How to read HIS tattoos

Tattoo and body language experts say tattoos reveal the personality of those who sport them. While Sush’s dagger tattoo is edgy, most Bollywood celebrities have gone for boring tattoos bearing the name or initials of a lover. Some sport symbols like stars and angels.

Deepika Padukone has her ex- beau Ranbir’s initials RK (Ranbir Kapoor) on her nape. Suzzanne Roshan, in an apparent denial of rumours that her marriage with Hrithik had run into problems, got his name tattooed on her arm.

According to body language expert Rita Gangwani, “Often it’s a subconscious decision to sport a tattoo on a particular body part but it gives away some clues about the personality of the wearer.” Normally people like to project their hidden desires through symbolic gestures like tattoos.

While a harmless flower or a butterfly tattoo on a girl suggests that she is trying to build up her sensuality, a tattoo such as ‘Temptation’ with a dagger denotes that her biggest desire could be to be wanted, loved and appreciated by people. The dagger also signifies that the person is difficult and is very opinionated.

“The place where the tattoo is drawn is also very strategic. Sush’s tattoo on her left wrist about God denotes the close bond she feels with God. In body language studies, anything that is close to your left wrist is considered very heartfelt. The nerve connecting your heart runs straight through your left wrist (that’s why the wedding band is worn on the left ring finger),” Gangwani says.
